The 2012 CHECT South Coast Spectacular, Brighton to Weymouth, was a great success with a group of inexperienced but determined riders battling the weather to raise much-needed publicity and funds for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.
Personal goals were met and surpassed, and even when tiredness and strong coastal winds looked like defeating them, the team came together to keep going.
A loyal band of friends, family and supporters followed the ride throughout, joining the team for dinner at the excellent Dolphin Hotel in Southampton on the first night and being there at the finish in Weymouth.
Theo proved himself a natural and we hope to see him on future rides. Liz started out nervous and unsure but finished confident and assured. Julia surprised us all with her speed and stamina, spending most of the ride with the “quick” group. While we’ll long remember Emma’s determination and bravery as she battled injury and the steeper climbs, refusing to stop or walk.
So well done to them all. Charity cycling heroes the lot of them!
